This journal is part of our ongoing collaborative project with Philippine-based Palestinian tatreez artist and mother of two, Asia Shabaat.
Tatreez, or Palestinian hand-embroidery, is a centuries-old art form preserved through oral history between mother and daughter. It is recognized by UNESCO as an important Intangible Cultural Heritage. Historically, each village in Palestine had their own tatreez patterns, with unique designs telling stories about the local people, legends, animals and plants, and various beliefs people had. This journal has the symbol of The Scale or Al Meezan.
This hand-embroidered leather journal is 7.5 x 5.5 inches in size and has 240 pages counting both sides. It is made of real cowhide leather in brown and fabric we hand-embroidered with a traditional Palestinian embroidery design using high quality floss thread. The embroidered fabric has a leather backing to protect the stitches.
This journal’s leather spine was hand-punched, then hand-sewn with strong thread using traditional long stitch binding. The paper is 85 gsm, acid-free blank, ivory-colored sheets made of pure ECF (elemental chlorine free) ecological pulp that is versatile and can take fountain pen ink and light watercolor.
This journal is perfect for special occasions such as for weddings and anniversaries or for gift giving.
This is a labor of love and will not be 100% duplicated.
